All About How To Make Kombucha

Many people are interested in knowing how to make kombucha tea at home. The tea has gained much popularity because of the health benefits it offers. The fermented tea provides a high concentration of digestive enzymes, b-vitamins, as well as, glucaric acid. All which help in detoxification, increased liver function, and improved digestion. A lot of regular drinkers say they notice a boost in energy over time as well.

In the beginning the tea is a sugary sweet tea and then it's fermented using a scoby, or a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. You'll have to acquire a scoby if you hope to brew the tea yourself. Keep in mind there is 1% or so of alcohol in the tea due to the fermentation process.

Acquiring a scoby is probably the most difficult part of the whole brewing process. It will be a painless process if you know someone that brews kombucha. Most likey they will have an extra scoby around for you to have.

You can always go to the internet for you scoby needs. There are multiple sites where you can buy a scoby. They will send it to you in a dehydrated state with instructions on what to do with it. There's also videos on the internet that can show you what to do with dehydrated scoby.

If you have a green thumb, you may be interested in growing a scoby yourself. There are tutorials on the internet that show you how to grow a scoby. All you will need is a bottle of unflavored, organic kombucha. This is probably one of the least expensive ways to get a scoby.

Very few supplies are needed to brew the tea. You just need a gallon jar, some store bought kombucha, a scoby, a coffee filter, a gallon of brewed tea and a rubber band. You can buy these supplies in a grocery store. Some of them you may already have in your home.

Some folks think that brewing your own tea is time consuming. After all, bottles of the tea are now available commercially and buying a bottle would be easier. While this may be true, buying the nutrient filled tea commercially can go for $3-$5 per bottle. You can brew your own gallon for less than a few bucks.

So brewing the drink is really a breeze. Brew a gallon of tea, cool to room temperature, add some of the store bought kombucha and toss in the scoby. You will just want to cover the jar with a coffee filter and secure that with a rubber band. Then it is just a matter of waiting and letting it ferment. You will have to let it ferment for 7-30 days, in a warm place out of sunlight. If you want it really sweet leave it for 30 days, for less sweetness leave it for less time.

It is a worthy investment of time to learn how to make kombucha. The health benefits just can't be beat and it has a sweet fizzy taste people love. Make your own tea and you'll be well on your way to great taste and great health.
