The Kazaky: The Dance Boy's Band

By Karissa R. Mingo

Kazaky (also known as The Boys in Heels) is a Ukrainian all-male dance group, made up of Oleg Zhezhel (a founder and choreographer), Artur Gaspar, 28, a former student at the St. Petersburg State Ballet Theater; Francesco Borgato, 22, a mop-headed Italian who replaced a founding member, Stas Pavlov, in 2011; and Kyryll Fedorenko, 21, a onetime competitive ballroom dancer.

Assembled in Kiev by Zhezhel, a choreographer, the audience has released several songs who have become popular on YouTube. The gang confronts gender norms by fusing masculine and feminine attributes together, particularly by regularly wearing stiletto heels.

"Kazaky" is Russian for "Cossacks". The Cossacks stood a very prominent role in the shaping of Ukraine's national culture and history. Nevertheless the group claims that the name has nothing related to the Cossacks. Instead, they are saying that the Japanese language and culture have influenced their name.

For the last year, they've got earned high praise from trend gatekeepers like the fashion editor Anna Dello Russo, the photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott as well as the designers Dan and Dean Caten of DSquared2, who invited several men to shut their spring men's presentation last year. In an assessment of that show for Style.com, Tim Blanks labeled the audience four dizzy queens which has a post-Gaga get-outta-my-way-bitch shtick.

Since that time, with countless opinion of YouTube with their music videos like Love and In the Middle, the boys of Kazaky have dug their five-and-a-half-inch heels firmly in the world stage. Campy but deadpan, they're arguably area of the boy band revival, however fringe, a result of their European contemporaries One Direction and the Wanted. Their flaw-free dance moves also attain popularity of shows like So You Think That You Can Dance along with the resurfacing with the 90s Vogue-ball aesthetic in New York's underground night life. (The group maintains they certainly almost all their own choreography.)

The background music, thumping electro clash with blunt phrases like Love me/Hate me/I dont care, is whatever fluff you will probably find around the Eurovision song contest. Plus an era through which Pixie Lott gabs on about subverting gender and sexuality norms, these fellows strut the strut.

Kazakys widest experience date, perhaps, was when they were chosen by Madonna, famous for cultivating emerging dance talent, being her backup dancers on her behalf Girl Gone Wild video, that have its debut in March. The clips stylist, the Oscar-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips, were required to create custom women's high heel sandals hacked down from hooker boots, as Ms. Phillips called them, for each and every an affiliate this rock band because she was can not find shoes of their sizes with the deadline.

Kazaky is sustainability will probably be tested with the relieve their still-untitled first album, tentatively planned for before fall, and a new music video for Barcelona, its single. These are currently on his or her worldwide AMen tour. A clothing line together with their stylist, Anna Osmekhina, is planned.
