Paleo Diet Blogs Offer Helpful Tips

By Tamika Powell

The Paleolithic diet is the oldest eating plan known to mankind. It was adhered to by virtually all human beings for multiple centuries. Paleo diet blogs indicate that the basics of the diet are not at all difficult to learn, and individuals who choose to follow this program rarely struggle with excessive weight and are often healthier than those who embrace more contemporary diets.

The program focuses on seafood, meat, fowl, nuts, certain types of fruit, and vegetable. The basic rule one must adhere to when following this kind of program is to consume only fare that is acquired through hunting or fishing, or that which grows naturally on the Earth. Proponents of this approach to eating claim that the aforementioned items are the only types of food intended for human consumption.

Man-made foods almost always contain high amounts of starch. Such fare includes a wide selection of pastas and breads, which are favored by many individuals in modern society. However, such foods are not found naturally on Earth, but rather were invented by man.

Individuals dieting for health purposes have been consistently told that following plans that center on low-fat, high-carb foods is the best way to shed excess pounds. However, scientific research has proven over and over that diets featuring high starch foods and heavily processed fare are ultimately hazardous to one's health. Further studies found that weight reduction plans of this type are usually ineffectual.

Another intriguing fact that is spoken about on numerous Paleo websites is that over the past fifty years, the incidence of diabetes and cardiovascular problems has skyrocketed around the world. This increase is thought to be linked to the modern trend of following diets that are high in starch rather than Paleolithic eating habits. This unhealthy transition was due in part to the publication of the food pyramid chart, which was introduced to the public by the United States FDA.

The food pyramid publication lists pasta and bread as the foundation of a healthy diet. However, some individuals contest the fact that starch is recognized by the FDA as a food group. This is because, as previously mentioned, virtually all starch-based fare was invented by man.

The Paleo approach to eating focuses on foods that can be consumed in their natural state. Such fare includes essentially anything that would have been available prior to the era of modern technology, such as in the hunter-gatherer civilizations of yesteryear. Processed foods or and man-made creations are not consumed by those following the Paleo plan. Rather, the program focuses on seafood, beef, poultry, fresh produce and nuts.

Many nutritionists believe that the advantages of this approach to dieting will become more apparent as a higher number of consumers refer to Paleo diet blogs and restructure their approach to eating to include natural food items instead of man-made products and high starch foods. Most individuals following this kind of program enjoy good results. However, it is usually best to discuss any changes to one's eating habits with a licensed health care practitioner.
