It is finally Opening Day in Major League baseball

By B. Crawford

The day has finally arrived, the wait is over. Opening Day in Major League Baseball, after a really long winter and extensive spring training, is finally ready to get started. Every fan can finally breath a little more easily as the tension of not having baseball for many months disappears. Fans will be filing into parks around the league ready to see the launch of the action.

We are all very enthralled and nobody can take that pleasure away. It has long been debated that Opening Day should be a holiday, and for many companies it is. Businesses recognize that there is very little benefit to being open for business if half of your workforce are simply going to lie and say that they are suddenly under the weather.

Some cities greet this day on a more grand stage than other. Cincinnati has a parade and a good chunk of the city simply pauses for few hours to honor the tradition. In fact, Cincinnati used to hold the honor of getting the season by consistently being the first game of the season. This tradition ended several years ago, but that doesn't stop the city from going to extremes to recognize this day.

For most teams the season will start tomorrow, the only two teams playing today are the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros. For the rest of Major League Baseball, the season will start in April instead of March. As teams prepare their rituals, you can feel the tension of the wait. Waiting is the most ruthless part.

From a weather standpoint everything looks pretty good for the next couple of days. I don't expect that there will be any rain delays even though there is a rain day built into the first series of the season. For the teams that start their season on Monday, Major League Baseball will have a very thin schedule on Tuesday as that is a scheduled day off for many teams. With superb weather expected throughout the country this week, I expect to see no missed games due to weather conditions.

We are all ready to see the season get under way. We are all ready to start fresh and see our favorite team achieve great things and to reach their potential. Major League Baseball is almost here, let's get this thing going already!
